India's opens its GOLD tally in Olympics after 28 years!

Phew! After a long long 28 years of waiting, the Indian National Anthem was played at the Olympics today! And all kudos and applause to Abhinav Bindhra, who has given India its First Ever Gold in an individual event at the Olympics! He has made India proud with his Gold medal in the Men's 10 meter Rifle event at Beijing 2008.

The last time the nation experienced the euphoria of seeing a gold in our medals kitty was way back in 1980 at the Moscow Olympics, when our Hockey team bagged the gold. And those were the days when satellite television hadnt yet invaded our homes. The entire nation was glued to Akashvani that brought home precious updates about the Golden moment. :)

Another Hope at Beijing 2008: Saina Nehwal is our badminton star on whom the country is counting with hope. Today she has advanced to the quarter finals in the women's singles event. Saina is a first-time Olympian and is already making waves with her fantastic performance!

The nation waits with bated breath for more gold!! Hope Abhinav's feat inspires and motivates the Indian contingent towards star performances that will help make the Indian medals kitty look decent. Hope these winners also inspire the political leaders and Indian Sports authority to wake up and make a difference through sincere and valuable investments in aspiring talents.
